Hello Lovelies,
I got this book because it was supposed to be free on amazon, well imagine my surprise when I looked at my phone as I hit the one-click button and saw it was $3.99. Since I was on my phone and could not return it immediately I decided that I might as well give it a try. I started this last night after organizing all the books I already own on Goodreads. I saw it had high reviews and the title made me want to start it. I also thought this was one that I saw on a blog talking about the sequel so I figured if I liked it then I wouldn’t have to wait. I was so wrong on that account. I finished this book a couple of hours ago and as soon as I finished I went hunting for book 2. It doesn’t get released until August. 😦 Also this is another trilogy, just be aware.
Driven (The Driven Trilogy #1) by K. Bromberg
Blurb: Rylee Thomas is used to being in control. But she’s about to meet the one man that just might make her enjoy losing it…
I am the exception to the rule.
In a world full of willing women, I’m a challenge to the roguish and achingly handsome Colton Donavan. A man used to getting exactly what he wants in all aspects of life. He’s the reckless bad boy constantly skating that razor thin edge toward out of control, on and off of the track.
Colton crashes into my life like a tornado: sapping my control, testing my vulnerabilities beyond their limits, and unintentionally penetrating the protective wall around my healing heart. Tearing apart the world I rebuilt so carefully with structure, predictability, and discipline.
I can’t give him what he wants and he can’t give me what I need. But after a glimpse beneath his refined exterior into the dark secrets of his damaged soul, can I bring myself to walk away?
Our sexual chemistry is undeniable. Our individual need for complete control is irrefutable. But when our worlds collide, is the chemistry enough to bring us together or will our untold secrets and battle of wills force us apart?
Rating: 4 Stars
Price: $3.99
The good news is that even though this book was very much like Fifty Shades of Grey, the author even puts a reference in the book to Christian and Ana (Face-Palm…I hated that line!), I still liked it enough that I was willing to and excited to buy the second book. The beginning was slow, I just wanted her to give in and I loved Colton and Rylee from the start. I found myself skipping the parts with Rylee and the BFF, Haddie, I just wasn’t a fan but we don’t see much of her in the story. Both of the main characters are plagued with emotional baggage and by the end of book one we know Rylee’s story but not very much about Colton. I wish Rylee could have gotten more out of him. He just fought the whole way. I think the second Colton came to The House I was in love and it didn’t matter for one second that he was still pushing Rylee away.
“An angel fighting through the darkness or a devil breaking into the light?”
Colton was the typical playboy alpha male, and it was sexy. He is a race car driver and it came up a few times but not nearly as much as I thought it would, given the title. When he gets around the kids though your heart will melt.
“Let’s get one thing clear… I. Do. Not. Take. What’s. Not. Offered. And we both know, sweetheart, you offered. Willingly.”
Rylee is a good-girl just like all other heroines in novels of this category. She has only had sex with one man before Colton. When she said that I was kind of shocked just like I was shocked that a virgin would be so open to the male’s unique desires. Her “baggage” was crappy but I was happy that she escaped with a not so ridiculous fear of small confined spaces. She loves the kids she helps at her job at the The House. And the parts with the kids were the gateways to the most heartfelt moments. She calls him ACE, which still annoys me that we do not know what this means. It did get better when he started guessing!
The banter between Colton and Rylee was mostly really funny. The have a couple emails and text messages in the book, they even send each other songs to express how they feel. Even though most was funny, the points where you get in the down and dirty issues, your heart will just break a little.
“I deserve more than this, Colton.” I whisper raising my eyes to meet his, “And so do you.”
The book is also pretty steamy without being over kill. They are pretty tame if I do say so myself, which is good sometimes, nd makes this book in my opinion better than FSoG.
“I want to take my time with you, Rylee. I want to build you up nice and slow and sweet like you need. Push you to crash over the edge. And then I want to fuck you the way I need to. Fast and hard until you’re screaming my name.”
The cliffhanger is just that but I think it could have been so much worse. AND the author has a sneak peek at book 2 at the end that I just loved. It was probably better than most of the first book but it’s probably because I loved these characters by the end. I am currently adding book 2 to my have to have list and will be counting down to its arrival.
