Hello Lovelies,
First I must apologize that it has been almost a month since I have posted anything. I graduated from veterinary school and then went home to Texas to see Heather get her teaching degree. On top of that I moved from Michigan to Ohio last week so May has been a whirlwind month.
The only thing I have accomplished outside of that was reading 3 books, which is shameful for a month of “vacation”. I will post about the other 2 this week but today I want to talk about This Girl by Colleen Hoover.
This Girl (Slammed #3) by Colleen Hoover
Blurb: There are two sides to every love story. Now hear Will’s.
Colleen Hoover’s New York Times bestselling Slammed series has brought countless readers to their knees with a whirlwind of love, passion, and heartache. Layken and Will’s love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union. As much as Layken relishes their new life together, she finds herself wanting to know everything there is to know about her husband, even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong. Still, he can’t resist his wife’s pleas and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met.
In This Girl, Will tells the story of their complicated relationship from his point of view. Their future rests on how well they deal with the past in this final installment of the beloved Slammed series.
Rating: 5 Stars but really off the chart!
Price: $7.59
Everyone should know that I have a huge girl crush on Colleen and I adore her writing. She never fails to make me cry! This Girl is the final chapter of the Slammed series and she ends it so fantastically. The second book, Point of Retreat, ended with a HEA so this third book took us back to beginning from Will’s POV. It goes back and forth between present tense, Will and Lake on their honeymoon, and the best scenes of Slammed told by Will. The honeymoon is Will telling Lake the stories from the past and that is how it shifts. It is a really unique format and I loved it. The book is not just a retelling of book 1, it felt like a completely new story. Yes you know how certain parts happen but the feelings that Will shares will make you fall in love with him more than you think is possible. There are new slams, 2 in particular that blew everything else out of the water. The first is called This Girl and it is performed early on in the story. The second is the last poem of the book and I was speechless. Colleen Hoover can write breath-taking slams. The epilogue is cute and you will like it but even though it’s what you think you want out of this book it will not be the memorable moment of this story. I think my favorite parts were between Will and Julia (Lake’s mom). Hopefully you have read this series and already know why these scenes would be the best but if you haven’t I am sure not telling. Go read Slammed then read This Girl. You can read Point of Retreat in between as it will add to your love of the series and increase your understanding of the characters. The only negative I can see is the price, it’s not a problem for me, I would pay Colleen 10 times more to read her thoughts but it is hard to get people to read a series when the books are higher priced. It will be worth it, I promise!
