Book Review: Ten Tiny Breaths by K.A. Tucker

Hello lovelies,

I read this book during my vacation and when I bought it I am pretty sure it was cheap. Well today when I pulled up amazon the book has a new cover and it is now kind of expensive. I really liked this book but I am going to be honest that the greater price will affect how enthusiastically I recommend this book. I know that sounds bad but it is life. I would like to congratulate the author on being published by Atria! She really has a talent for descriptive writing and I was deeply moved by this story. I still think this is a must read, the new price just happened quickly.

Four years ago Kacey Cleary’s life imploded when her car was hit by a drunk driver, killing her parents, boyfriend, and best friend. Still haunted by memories of being trapped inside, holding her boyfriend’s lifeless hand and listening to her mother take her last breath, Kacey wants to leave her past behind. Armed with two bus tickets, twenty-year-old Kacey and her fifteen-year-old sister, Livie, escape Grand Rapids, Michigan, to start over in Miami. Struggling to make ends meet, Kacey needs to figure out how to get by. But Kacey’s not worried. She can handle anything—anything but her mysterious neighbor in apartment 1D.

Trent Emerson has smoldering blue eyes, deep dimples, and he perfectly skates that irresistible line between nice guy and bad boy. Hardened by her tragic past, Kacey is determined to keep everyone at a distance, but their mutual attraction is undeniable and Trent is determined to find a way into Kacey’s guarded heart—even if it means that an explosive secret could shatter both their worlds.

Amanda: This was so nice it was a complete journey of healing for these characters. Which were all very well-developed and there was so much depth that you just want to cling to them. I even liked Ben! The big plot twist was pretty predictable but in the wouldn’t this be the icing on the cake way. I didn’t want it to be so but by the end of the story I was so happy it was. I liked watching Kacey act more normal as she heals and I even loved how she was getting to that point. Livie was too cute and I was so happy at the end. I didn’t cry but I did feel a wide range of emotions. The author writes so beautifully that I was either laughing at the hilarious dialogue or stunned silent by the gut wrenching pain and fear that Kacey was feeling. The first chapter about stopped my heart and I was thinking is this really how we get tossed into this, I felt like I was about to drown instantly! This book is a must read! And the cover is amazing! I have to point out that this last statement is for the original cover shown below.

Heather: This was a great book. It had a good plot and a great twist at the end. I think one of my favorite parts of the novel are the supporting characters. They are so well-developed. Between the main characters and the secondary characters, the novel feels more like a family than just a story.
